Wood Series FAQs
VintageWood panels are crafted to capture the warmth and character of real wood with remarkable precision. Each fiber cement panel features a finely embossed grain that mirrors the real texture and patterning of natural planks. The face is designed as a series of carefully spaced grooves drawing the eye to the authentic rhythm of traditional wood siding while maintaining modern alignment. Advanced coating technology delivers color depth and tonal variation that remain consistent from panel to panel. The result is a modern wood facade that looks genuine at any distance and offers the timeless appeal of wood without the material instability.
Unlike traditional wood that demands seasonal sealing, staining, and protection from pests, VintageWood’s engineered composition resists pests, warping, and decay. The factory-applied finish delivers long color stability and reduces repaint cycles. Routine maintenance generally involves little more than occasional rinsing to remove surface dust or debris and support long-term performance and warranty expectations. Panels are factory sealed for added moisture control and dimensional stability over the long term even when exposed to humidity or temperature swings that cause natural wood to swell or crack. These durable wood siding panel alternatives keep projects looking fresh year after year with minimal upkeep.
Yes. VintageWood is built from fiber cement siding engineered for exceptional weather resistance. Tested under ASTM and AAMA standards for freeze-thaw, heat-rain, and water-penetration performance, these panels remain stable and watertight even in coastal or humid regions. Installed with a built-in ventilated rainscreen system, they allow trapped moisture to escape while protecting the structure beneath. This makes VintageWood an exterior wood alternative that performs reliably where natural lumber would deteriorate over time.
Both cedar and redwood are valued for beauty, but they are organic siding materials prone to fading and splitting. VintageWood comes in a variety of colors to mimic various species of woods and offer many design options while outperforming real wood in every technical category. Its fiber cement panels are dimensionally stable and offer superior protection against fire, moisture, and pests. Factory-applied finishes provide consistent color, and the panels maintain flat, tight lines without the cupping or shrinking seen in natural boards. Architects and homeowners seeking authentic texture without constant care find VintageWood delivers enhanced curb appeal and reliable performance for the long term.
Most folks like the 5/8″ thick modern VintageWood or RoughSawn for that timeless wood look without the maintenance of traditional wood. Both panels are 18″ (nom.) widths and install with our hidden fastener rainscreen system. VintageWood has the appearance of three 6″ planks per panel width and RoughSawn is made to look like four 4.5″ planks wide. Both can be installed either vertically or horizontally.
Alternatively, for a stunning craftsman, bungalow or transitional styled cedar sidewall look, our 1/2″ Sierra Premium Shake planks come in four prefinished colors. These are installed like normal blind-fastened sidings but with a thicker shadow line, faster installation and less waste than the thinner 1/4″ or 5/16″ traditional products. The corners can even be mitered to get that authentic shake appeal.
